A prostitution sting landed five Sioux Falls area women behind bars. All of the women were arrested after posting ads online.
- 28-year-old Janet Denise Brown
- 34-year-old Saleena Renae Janis
- 20-year-old Brittany Nicole Wegleitner
- 22-year-old Amber Rose Thompson
- 23-year-old Jessica Ann Tauer
"It's pretty clear when you make contact what is going to be expected," Sioux Falls Police public information Officer Sam Clemens said.
Officers posing as 'Johns' contacted the women in the ads and arranged to meet them at a Sioux Falls motel. The name of that business is not being named because of its cooperation with police. From there, undercover officers made deals with the women, who were then arrested for prostitution.
"Essentially you just have to have the agreement that it's going to take place," Clemens said.
All of the women were found through ads posted on sites online. Police say online is the most common way people advertise for sex and that's why they're constantly monitoring the web.
"We just do these periodically because we know that people are advertising and this is one way we can do to try and limit the amount of prostitution that goes on," Clemens said.
Stings take a lot of time and manpower so they're not done regularly, but police say they do them enough to make sure those attempting to get away with it think twice.
"That's the ultimate goal to make sure people are abiding by the law," Clemens said.
Sometimes it's just easier to signup for a site like iHookup
where legal sex can be obtained without paying money. And there is no problem in that however, if you are caught up in one of these stings and you were there to have sex for money then you might be going downtown.
